Why use a Cyber Advisor.

The NCSC assures both the advisor and the company they work for, so you know who you’re dealing with.

  • Tested by the NCSC

Every Cyber Advisor passes an independent assessment on the Cyber Essentials controls.

  • Hands-on help

We make the changes with your team, so you're left with fixes in place, not a list of them.

  • Built for smaller teams

Get advice sized to organisations without a full-time IT department, and a budget to match.

  • Certified in one place

We're also a Cyber Essentials Certification Body, so the team that gets you ready can certify you.

What we help with.

We work through the five Cyber Essentials controls with you. Our Cyber Essentials guide covers each one in detail.

  • Firewalls

Close the ports you don't need and change the default passwords on routers and firewalls.

  • Secure configuration

Remove unused software and accounts, and set up new devices securely from day one.

  • Security update management

Get high and critical updates on within 14 days and replace software that's out of support.

  • User access control

Separate admin accounts from everyday ones and turn on MFA across your cloud services.

  • Malware protection

Check every device has malware protection that's switched on and up to date.

How it works.

  1. 01

    Scope

We agree which devices, accounts and cloud services are in scope, and when you need certifying.

  2. 02

    Check

Your Cyber Advisor checks your setup against the five controls and lists the gaps, worst first.

  3. 03

    Fix

We fix the gaps with your team, or guide your own IT people through them. Any work is quoted first.

  4. 04

    Certify

You submit for Cyber Essentials, and we mark it and issue the certificate.

Cyber Advisor questions.

What is an NCSC Cyber Advisor?

A cyber security professional assessed by the NCSC to help small and medium-sized organisations put the Cyber Essentials controls in place.

Do we have to be going for Cyber Essentials?

No. The five controls are a good baseline on their own, and many organisations start with a check to see where they stand.

Can you certify us after getting us ready?

Yes. We're an IASME-accredited Cyber Essentials Certification Body, though you can use a different certification body if you prefer.

Does this cover Cyber Essentials Plus?

Yes, the same work gets you ready for the Plus audit. The audit itself is carried out independently, not by us.

What does it cost?

It depends on how many people and devices you have, and how much of the work you want us to do. We'll send a quote after the first call.

How do we check you're on the scheme?

IASME runs the Cyber Advisor scheme for the NCSC. Ask us and we'll send you our details to check.
